Unlike granite, marble is a softer stone and it can be etched by acids and other chemicals. On a bathroom floor, the glossy finish is the first to go where there's a lot of foot traffic and standing around, like in front of the sink. Unpolished marble can also absorb dirt more easily since it's more difficult to wipe clean and pores open up. There's a small bathroom I maintain that has a marble floor with just these problems. There was no way I was going to be able to fill the ever-so-slight ruts from foot traffic, but I thought I could restore the shine so the trailways wouldn't be as obvious. By going up in grit, slowly and a pad at a time, I was able to coarsely even out the paths, and with the highest grits restore some of the quietly glossy finish. It took me a few days because I didn't want to rush this work, and I was afraid in case I might take too much material off. Using these pads on marble does make dust, and diamond dust and marble dust would be the worst to breathe, so do wear a mask, wear eye protection, and don't rub your eyes. The alternative would have been to have tiles replaced, but I don't know that I could have matched the material, so I felt I had to give this a try. It did work for me. If you have the time and the fortitude, it may well work for you, too.
